An item is a collectible that offers a passive bonus to the character, ranging from stat upgrades to proc effects on weapons to enabling special abilities. They are available from various sources throughout the playthrough. There is no limit to how many items the player can hold at once, including duplicates of the same item – such items become stacked and incur more powerful effects than the original.
Items have varied rarities, indicated by the color of the background in Logbook, the outline on the in-game model, and the border on the player's item list:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Legendary
- Boss
- Lunar
Common, Uncommon and Legendary items are found in item chests, terminals and Shrines of Chance. Defeating a teleporter boss causes the teleporter to drop Uncommon gear, with the exception of three that can drop unique, Boss items. Lunar gear is purchased with Lunar Coins via Lunar Pods or at the Bazaar Between Time.
Some items have to be unlocked by completing a Challenge before appearing as a drop or purchase in the player's world. Items available immediately are listed as "Default", the others list the name of the associated challenge.
The other collectible items in the game are Equipment items. Most characters can only hold one at a time, and most have to be manually activated. The Orange marking is exclusive to those items.
