The Artifact of Sacrifice will allow all monsters to drop items; this is at the cost of disabling all chests, shrines, and everything else where you can spend money. (Chests can still be spawned using the Captain's Brooch.)
How to unlock
The Artifact of Sacrifice is unlocked in the Magma Barracks, Artifact variant.
The Artifact Gate, near the middle-left edge of the map (shown in green rectangle on the map image), is easily reached, but the Artifact will only appear when three switches (shown in red rectangles) are activated. Upon activating the last switch, a sound will play, and the artifact will spawn in the gate.
Two of the switches are located in the open at upper left and center of the level, while the third is hidden partway down the left-most narrow shaft and requires a little timing to activate. Note that the switches appear on the map variant that does not have lava at the bottom of that area (i.e. not the Miner variant).
Hitting the switches
The switches are activated by damage, but as they are behind walls it's necessary to use an attack that can reach through the wall. There is no time limit or required order of activation. Once a switch is hit, it will look depressed and partially turn red.
While the two upper switches are easy to activate, it is very hard to activate the bottom switch, unless you are playing a class that can stop falling like the Miner or the Mercenary. The other way is to fall down and try it over and over again until you hit the switch.
It is impossible for some characters, such as the Commando, to hit the switches with any attack or item (with the exception of the Laser Turbine), and so will be unable to acquire the artifact without using the Cremator's shots.
Confirmed ways to press switches:
- Bandit's Dynamite
- Huntress' Cluster Bomb
- Riot Shotgun and Crowd Control
- HAN-D's FORCED_REASSEMBLY
- CHEF's SEAR
- Loader's M440 Conduit
- Most? attacks paired with Brilliant Behemoth
- Activating the Laser Turbine
- Gold-plated Bomb
- Cremator's artillery shots (guide them by being near the buttons when Cremator aims a volley)
Barbed Wire and Chargefield Generator(These no longer work)
(Acrid's Festering Wounds no longer reaches the switch.)
This artifact makes it possible to stay in one map for as long as you want to, because you don't need to advance to the next level to open new chests for more items. This will allow you to save all your money to get a lot of experience. Though this artifact has many advantages, early on, it is hard to quickly get items.
You are usually unable to get yellow items that are dropped from bosses with sacrifice on.
